Rider was born about 1815 Cork Ireland and convicted at Cork in 1834 of house breaking and sentenced to life transportation, he arrived Sydney aboard Blenheim on 14 November 1834.

Rider was convicted with Thomas Summer/Sumner & Joseph Cook & Dennis Darcey/Darcy (all unidentified) of bushranging rape and robberies and sentenced to death.
