Biographies

Baptised 10 May 1815 in Wittersham, Kent son of Jonathan and Sarah Hoad.

Married Sarah Matilda Drury on 19 Dec 1835 in Stone in Oxney Kent. Both he and his father were carpenters.

Jonathan and Susanna had five children born in Wittersham: Jane 1835, Ann 1839-1841, Martha 1842, Jonathan Herbert 1844-1847 and Ambrose George 1847.

In January 1848 he was sentenced to six months hard labour for the theft of timber.

The following January aged 33 he and two younger men, James Standen 21 and John Russell 23 were indicted for burglary at Wittersham: for breaking and entering the house of Musgrove Tomkin and stealing a purse contains four or five pounds in silver, a bag containing six pounds in gold, a notebook containing two or three five pound notes with several memorandums and one knife. Jonathan was sentenced to be transported for ten years, the other two men for seven years.
