Biographies
Born about 1805 in Lancaster - from English Criminal register. 19 Jan. 1805 from christening records.
Christened on 24 Feb. 1805 at Church of St. Mary Virgin in Blackburn as Robert Solomon Solomon, father Solomon Solomon and Catherine - from parish records. Register of baptisms 1792-1812, page 229, entry 14.
1823: Committed to Lancaster Castle. – “On Saturday last James Duffey, a native of the Emerald Isle, but now of Lancaster, Licensed Hawker, was brought up on a warrant granted by John Bradshaw, Esq., for assaulting one Robert Solomon on the high road in the Township of Bulk, and detaining him, without legal authority, for not having a hawker's license, which Duffy deemed necessary to entitle Solomon to travel. Duffey was bound over in a recognizance, with two sureties, to keep the peace for twelve calendar months.” - Westmorland Gazette, Sat. 20, Dec., 1823.
MARRIAGE: 6 July 1825 in Gainford, north Yorkshire, to Agnes Proctor - from Bell marriage collection and bishops transcripts. Witnesses were Cuthbert Graham and Elizabeth Gates.
1829: "On Monday week, Robert Solomon, of Barnard Castle, was committed to Appleby gaol for further examination, charged with paying to Joseph Fisher, of Warcop, a five pound note of the Stockton and Cleveland bank (long since gone to wreck), in part payment for a mare bought at the last Brough Hill fair." - in Newcastle Courant, Saturday, November 7, 1829, issue # 8076.
1830: The Quarter Sessions for the East and West Wards of the county of Westmorland, were held at Appleby on Monday the 11th instant, Edward W. Hasell, Esq., Dalemain, Chairman, and a full bench of Magistrates - ... Robert Solomon was convicted of passing a forged note, of the Stockton and Cleveland Bank, at the last Brough Hill fair, and sentenced to twelve month's imprisonment and hard labour. - Lancaster Gazette, Sat. 23 Jan 1830.
1830: Epiphany 1830 - Sentenced to 12 months at Westmorland assizes for fraud - English criminals register.
1832: Preston, Lancashire - Michaelmas 1832

1832: In York Herald, Saturday 7th July 1832 - Robert Solomon, of Barnard Castle, [and 2 others] - … charged with assaults, were ordered to be discharged, the prosecutors not appearing against them.
1837: Committed a robbery with partner John Chisholm Cook on 28th of April.
1838: Arrested for that robbery a year later on May 12th in Barnard Castle.
1838: " Committed to Durham Gaol - Robert Solomon, late of Barnard Castle, hawker, for breaking into a shop at South Shields belonging to Thos. Whittingham, and stealing therefrom a great quantity of hardware goods." - from Northern Liberator, Saturday, May 19, 1838.

1838: 21 July - Arrived on prison hulk Ganymede at Chatham and Woolwich, aged 33, convicted in Durham for stealing a quantity of hardware.
1839: Transported to Tasmania on the ship "Marquis of Hastings", convict number 2678 - from Tasmanian convict website. Another website gives ship’s captain as Capt. Hy I. Naylor, surgeon Ed Jeffery, 240 convicts embarked, 233 arrived. LDS Film 0952487 gives date of sailing as 18 March 1839 from Portsmouth and arrival as 23 July 1839. Voyage date March 16 - from HO 11/12, along with John Chisholm Cook - HO 11/12.
