John was tried and convicted at Northumberland Newcastle upon Tyne Quarter Sessions on 4 April 1832 of "theft" and sentenced ton7 years transportation

John arrived Sydney aged about 21 aboard Asia on 27 June 1833 with his Indent showing trade as"sailor".

John together with Thomas Tattersdale (Asia 1833) shot & murdered Dr Robert Wardell of Petersham on 7 September 1834.
