OPEN HOUSE at Historic Linnwood

The Friends of Linnwood invite you to Linnwood at 25 Byron Road, Guildford on Sunday 14 September 2008 (11am – 4pm) $2 admission. Linnwood is listed on the State Heritage Register. Australian Scottish Cultural & Information Centre (together with Clan Societies) An exhibition documenting Linnwood's life through the years from a Gentleman's country residence of 1891, to a home for State Wards (Lynwood Hall) for over 50 years, to its current use by the community
Also performances by members of Justine Banks School of Highland Dancing, Pipes & Drums of Parramatta RSL Caledonian Pipe Band and lots of Arts & Crafts Stalls. Further information Dorothy – 9632 9203  or  Helen – 9807 3224

Book Sale

Hawkesbury Historical Society will be holding a Book Sale during History Week. It will be held on Fri 12th-Sun 14th September, 10am-3pm in front of the Hawkesbury Regional Museum, 8 Baker Street, Windsor.

Death Notice

John P. Powell, Deerubbin Press publisher passed away following an illness. John (with his wife Jocelyn) were responsible for publishing many local history books on the Hawkesbury supporting local history of the region. He also wrote "Placenames of the Greater Hawkesbury Region" and co-wrote "Cruising guide to the Hawkesbury River & Cowan, Broken Bay, Pittwater" and contributed to various other publications. He spoke several  times at the Hawkesbury Family History Group meetings.

AUSTRALIAN NEWSPAPER DIGITISATION PROGRAM

The National Library of Australia along with the various Australian State & Territory libraries, have been working on a program to digitise newspapers. This is called the Australian Newspaper Digitisation Program. You can find out more about the program and newspaper titles at www.nla.gov.au/ndp/  At present newspapers for NSW include "Sydney Gazette & NSW Advertiser" as well as the "Maitland Mercury & Hunter River General Advertiser".

Last week the Australian Newspapers Beta service was launched to the public. It contains 70,000 newspaper pages from 1803 onwards with additional pages are being added each week. This is a work in progress and the Library welcomes feedback on the service. Development of the Beta service over the next few months. REUNIONS- Reminders

Jurd Reunion 28 September 2008

The JURD & Associated Families will be holding a REUNION on Sunday 28th September 2008 at Windsor, the 196th Wedding Anniversary of Daniel & Elizabeth. It will be held in the Tebbutt Room, Deerubbin Centre, 300 George Street Windsor. Gathering starts at 10.30am & is BYO. Draft copies of the revised chapters our Book will be available for comment. The countdown to the Reunion to be held on 29/30 Sept 2012, commemorating 200th Wedding Anniversary of Daniel & Elizabeth is on. Vol. 1 contained some 8600 descendants, another 3000 names have been added to the database plus a wealth of family information including photos. Family members are invited & encouraged to come along to the reunion and especially to contact me before hand if they can assist with information on their branch of the tree. Ryan family reunion - 20 & 21 September 2008

A Gathering is being planned in Windsor of the descendants of Patrick John Ryan (1866 -1930) and his wife Ada Margaret (nee Blanchard) (1872-1950) on the weekend of 20 & 21 September, 2008. Patrick and Ada Ryan lived in Freemans Reach in the latter years of their lives.
