Scheyville Stories Sought

Residents with memories of Scheyville are invited to share their experiences about the migrant hostel for an exhibition to be held in Hawkesbury Regional Museum. Scheyville was one of Australia's largest reception centres for migrants during the 1950s & 60s, & for many people, it was their first home on Australian soil. People came from all over war-torn Europe. ‘We would love to hear from former residents and their families about their experiences of migrating to Australia and settling in NSW’, said Museum Director, Kathleen von Witt.  ‘Their stories are an important part of the history of the region - not just how they came to be here, but what they went on to do with their lives’. What was then the migrant receiving centre is now part of Scheyville National Park. Some original buildings still remain, including the administration building, which is now an office of the National Parks. For more information contact the museum museum@hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au  or call Museum Director - Kathleen von Witt 02 4560 4440
