RESEARCH YOUR FAMILY HISTORY ONLINE-ANCESTRY NOW AVAILABLE AT LIBRARY

Hawkesbury City Council Library now has a six month subscription to the Ancestry Library. Ancestry is a genealogy reference library created for the family history market and now available online through the internet at the Library at 300 George Street, Windsor. As well as access to more than 4000 individual indexes (or 4.5 billion names) Ancestry is particularly useful for persons researching their ancestors beyond their arrival into Australia.

It will provide researchers with instant access to a wide range of unique resources for genealogical and historical research. Ancestry includes records from the UK Census 1851-1901; church records; UK Births, Marriage & Deaths Index from 1837; as well as military records; court, probate records; directories; passenger lists and more! New content is continuously being added to this expanding database.

Through this site, researchers will be able to :-

  • search individual or specific databases
  • Peruse original, full-text digital images in the census & other records
  • Download digital images in JPEG & GIF formats for more extensive viewing and printing.
  • Download helpful charts.
  • Instantly retrieve a list of genealogy databases posted or updated recently.

Seeking images of the Hawkesbury at work & play ~ Can you assist?

Hawkesbury Central Library is seeking images during April 2006 for the National Trust Heritage Festival celebrations where a special display will be on exhibition. The display aims to look into the everyday life of the people in the Hawkesbury, the various aspects of their work and to a smaller extent, their leisure time.

This exhibition using images will explore and provide a nostalgic view of employers, employees & workplaces in the Hawkesbury in the 19th & 20th century. It will visit the past and present place of work, the industries and work conditions which have changed dramatically over time.

The images will be on show from Library's historical collection as well as some from private collections. The exhibition will be on display from 1 April to 30 April at the Hawkesbury Central Library at 300 George Street, Windsor. For more information contact the Hawkesbury Central Library on 4560 4460.

If you have images in your collection dating from the 1860s-1960s and would like to participate, please contact Michelle Nichols, Local Studies Librarian on 02 4560-4466 or email mnichols@hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au
