Biographies

John Chard, a tailor, was sentenced to 14 years transportation for housebreaking at Bristol Quarter Sessions on 8 April 1833. It was not his first offence. There are reports of his trial in the "Bristol Mercury" newspaper for 16 February and 13 April 1833

He arrived in New South Wales on the "Fairlie" in 1834, and died on 11 November 1891 at the Liverpool Asylum, New South Wales (NRS 4377 [7/3801 p.0360]; Reel 2848; NSW BDM 08617/1891)

May have had a son, John, also a tailor, who died at the Liverpool Asylum on 22 July 1893. (NSW BDM 8439/1893) This son had at least 2 children, according to his admission notes at the Asylum.
