Biographies

John Hurley was convicted at Rathkeale, Limerick along with ten others in 1823 under the Insurrection Act of 1822. He was transported to Australia on the Prince Regent, arriving in 1824.
On arrival, he was assigned to the Male Orphan school along with at least two of his fellow convicts, John Bath/Batt and Edmond/Edward Walsh.
By 1828 John was working for (possibly assigned to) Terrence Aubrey Murray at Melville.
John was recorded as holding a publican's license for The Kings Arms (Inn) at Campbelltown from 1832 until around 1840.
During this time, John also appears to have taken on the role of Postmaster for Campbelltown (dates to be investigated)
From 1841 John held a publican's licence for Hurley's Hotel until around 1854 when it was sold to James Campbell.
In 1842 John took out a license to depasture Crown Lands in the Lachlan District. The situation was described as what appears to read Corromunandy, I suspect this is likely an early predecessor to his later run Coramandra (recorded as Cootamundry by the Lands Department).
John sucessfully tendered for two runs around 1849, recorded as Cootamundry and Houlahans Creek (near Junee).

John died in Campbelltown in November 1882.
