A direct descendant of Catherine Hines Lattimore, sister of Maria Hines.
John Haywood/Hayward/Heyward. Born 1775, England. Arrived 1806 on the ship ‘Fortune’(and Alexander). Died 1853, Parramatta, NSW.
Convicted 25 March 1805 at Warwick Lent Assizes. Accused of grand larceny: Stealing boots & shoes from a ….. (unreadable).
According to Jen Willetts website https://www.jenwilletts.com/convict_ship_fortune_1806.htm you can see John on the UK Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849 – Class H.O.9; Piece 8; Source Information: Ancesry.com. I could not find him there but found him on Home Office: Convict Prison Hulks: Registers and Letter Books; Class: HO9; Piece: 5. This shows John was housed on the Hulk ‘Justitia’ and later moved to the transportation ship ‘Fortune’.
1807: John Haywood married Maria Hines (convict) in December 1807, at Parramatta. Both John and Maria were given seven years and both were freed by servitude.
1822: John is a wire worker, Parramatta. Maria 32y, sons William b.1808 and John b.1810.
1825: John is a fisherman, Parramatta. Wife Maria Hines/Haywood. Sons John 15yrs and William 17yrs, born in the colony (Parramatta).
1828 census: John Haywood 53yrs (convict), a shopkeeper; Maria Hines 38yrs and two sons William 20yrs and John 18yrs. Also listed at the same address as a servant is James Richards 13yrs (nephew of Maria – son of Phoebe Hines), and Edward Woodfit a shoemaker (on a life sentence).
1841 Census for NSW shows John and family at Parramatta.
There are various family trees on ancestry.com, which have images of newspaper clips regarding John and sale of property etc.
