Biographies
Robert Barnes was a pewterer in London before being convicted of larceny at the age of 21 on 26 Jul 1815. He spent a harrowing nine months aboard the prison hulk "Retribution" before being transported to NSW in 1816. Robert then served out his sentence and in the 1828 census is shown to be working as a tailor under Richard Humpage in Sydney. In 1835 Robert married Sophia Walker, a female emigrant who had arrived into Sydney the previous year aboard the ill-fated ship "David Scott".
Robert and Sophia had at least six children together, then I believe Sophia died in 1852. The burial record is listed under "Barns" and lists her as being 38 years old and living in Phillip Street.
Robert died from influenza in 1866 at the age of 71.
