Bernard partnered Thomas Wetton (Exmouth 1831) in murder and were two members of "Scotties" bushranging gang around Yass area.

Bernard was convicted at Portsmouth Court Martial on 10 August 1835,and sentenced to 7 years transportation, he arrived Sydney aboard Bardaster on 24 February 1836

Bernard and Thomas Wetton (Exmouth) were convicted on 24 February 1840 of murder John Hume on 19 January 1840 and another and sentenced to death.
