Matthew was convicted at Warwick Assizes on 21 March 1860 and sentenced to 7 years transportation, he arrived West Australia aboard Norwood on 9 June 1862

Matthew and Daniel Duffy (Runnymede 1856) were convicted in December 1865 murder Edward Johnson on 5 Nov 1865 at Northampton Ws and sentenced to death.
