John and twelve other participated in mutiny rebellion on Norfolk Island in January 1834; Robert Douglas (Martha 1818), Henry Drummond (Ocean 1823$, Thomas Freshwater (Manilus 1827), William Groves (Royal Admiral 1840), Henry Knowles (America 1829), Robert Ryan (Manilus 1828), Joseph Snell (Recovery 1819) , William McCulloch (Dunvegan Castle 1830), Walter Burke (Planter 1832), Patrick Glinny (Prince Regent 1824), Michael Anderson (Bussorah Merchant 1828) & James Bell (Marquis Huntley 1830).

John was born Middlesex and was convicted at Middlesex Quarter Sessions on 9 April 1829 and sentenced to 7 years transportation, he arrived Sydney aboard John on 13 September 1829

John together with Burke, Glinny, Bell, Douglas, Drummond & Snell were hanged on 22 September 1834 at Norfolk Island (the other six were hanged the next day)
