Born abt 1835 maybe as Samuel Bubb, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Father: Robert; Mother Mary Bubb. His religion: Church of England. 6 June 1848 13 year old Samuel Sheepwash faced a charged of larceny in the Clerkenwell County Sessions of Middlesex, for stealing slippers sentenced to 7 years transportation. Millbank Prison 18 Nov 1848. Parkhurst Prison 21 Mar 1848-2 Mar 1852. Embarked Fairlie sailed Plymouth 11 Mar 1852. Arrived Hobart 3 Jul 1852. Assigned JB SEAMAN 13 July; J Hudspeth 10 Aug 1852. Ticket of Leave 25 Sep 1853. Conditional Pardon 24Aug1854. Certificate of Freedom Oct1855. Alias Samuel Challis noted on Convict Conduct Record. Jan 1858 sentenced for larceny for 2 years hard labour Port Arthur. Aug 1860 charged with Absent as Servant Fined £1 +costs. July 1865 sentenced 6 years in Port Arthur for Larceny. Sacristant(Sexton) to Rev Maguire (catholic).
