John was convicted on 9 November 1837 of murdering Dennis Maloney at Port Macquarie and sentenced to death.

John arrived Sydney aged 20 aboard Parmelia on 2 March 1834 with his Indent showing alias " Cary Willis" and trade farm servant. Name John Carey Willis is evidenced later records.

John was born about 1814 Wexford Ireland and was convicted in 1833 at Kilkenny Ireland and sentenced to life transportation.
