Biographies

Joseph Carter was born about 1828 in the UK. In 1856 he was convicted at Nether Knutsford Assizes Court for 'receiving stolen goods' and sentenced to 14 years transportation. He arrived at Fremantle, Western Australia on 1 Jun 1858 per the Lord Raglan (a dedicated male convict transport). He married Sarah Carr (daughter of convict Robert Carr) on 8 Jan 1861 at Toodyay, Western Australia. They had seven children together. Joseph Carter died on 13 Nov 1887 at Toodyay and is buried in Toodyay cemetery.
