Biographies

James Patrick Kerrigan was born in Kilglass Roscommon, Ireland in 1815. His parents were Dennis Kerrigan and Ann Gallagher Kerrigan. James had one brother, Owen, who was born four years after him. In 1831, when James was seventeen years old, he stole a trunk from the back of a wagon. James was tried for his crime and received a sentence of punishment by transportation. He would be sent to New South Wales, Australia for a period of seven years.
James traveled on the convict ship "City of Edinburgh 2" from Galway, Ireland to Australia. The trip took 101 days. In 1938, having carried out his sentence, James was returned to Galway. He met and married Bridget Grimes and the couple had seven children. James and his family eventually emigrated to the United States where they settled in Hudson, MA.
