Biographies
William Webb (Mangles 1820) & Patrick Grary (Guildford 1816) & Thomas Quinn (Minerva 1819) &'John Lynch (Dorothy 1820) & Edward McGuinness (Tyne 1819) were among other convicts aboard Wellington on 10 December 1826 when a group of convicts seized control of the ship on way to Norfolk Island.
Recaptured they were returned to Sydney and placed on Prison Hulk "Phoenix" awaiting transfer to Norfolk Island. They escaped as a group from "Phoenix" in February 1827.

William was born about 1797 Gloucestershire and was convicted at Chatham Court Martial on 23 December 1819 and sentenced to 14 years transportation

William arrived Sydney aged about 23 aboard Mangles on 7 August 1820 with his Indent showing trade "cloth dresser".

Following his escape from "Phoenix" William was convicted on 2 May 1827!of robbery of Timothy Beard of Cabramatta and sentenced to death
