Committed for trial on 12th October 1796, the actual trial held at the Castle WInchester, did not occur until 30th January 1797. All jurors signed guilty to his stealing 40ld of lead despite his pleas

Joseph was transported with 9 other prisoners to a Hulks called "The Fortune". Joseph was there for 2 1/2 years before being transported to the ship 'Canada' for transportation.

Assigned to a whaling ship in 1805. Free by servitude by 1807. Received Certificate of Freedom 26/8/1824. Appointed a constable on 26/01/1826. Land Grant received in Field of Mars, Pennant Hills area.
