Joseph was born about 1797 and convicted at Durham Assizes on 4 August 1817 and sentenced to 14 years transportation

Joseph aged about 20 travelled on Lady Castlereagh noted as arriving Van Diemans Land, it is not known how he came to NSW.

Joseph and James Barnes (Agamemnon 1820) were convicted on 29 June 1829 of bushranging highway robbery of Joshua John Moore at Liverpool NSW and sentenced to death.
