Richard arrived Sydney aged about 24 aboard Asia on 13 March 1828 with his trade noted as "farm servant".

Richard together with John Salt & William Pitts were convicted on 29 June 1829 of highway robbery on Benjamin Crew at Bargo on 10 May 1829 and sentenced to death.
