Born about 1789 Surry England
8/09/1805 - Married Sarah Cheel at Chelsham Surry, England
24/02/1806 - Son William born at Carshalton Surrey
Summer 1806 - Tried at Assizes Surrey for stealing a horse: Aquitted
18/03/1807 – Tried at Assizes Surrey for stealing a horse: sentenced to Death, commuted to transportation to NSW for life
4/04/1807 – Transferred to the Prison hulk Retribution moored at Woolwich to await transportation
2/07/1808 – Sailed on the Convict ship Admiral Gambia from Portsmouth with 199 other male convicts for Sydney NSW
20/12/1808 – Arrived Port Jackson Sydney after 4 months at sea.
1814 – Shown in the NSW Convict Muster – status convict living in Liverpool area under the employ of Mr Lilly.
13/04/1816 – Departed Sydney on the Kangaroo for Hobart Tasmania, Trade shown as “Miller”
1820 – Shown in the Tasmania Population Muster living in Hobart (employer not shown), Trade shown as Brickmaker
1820 – List of convicts in Tasmania shows William has a “ticket of leave”
7/08/1821 – Conditional Pardon No 1384 given. (A conditional pardon allowed convicts with life sentences freedom of the colony, but they were not allowed to return to the UK)
The Principal Superintendent Register of Convicts Arriving in Van Diemen’s Land shows William with the comment “conditional pardon”
1824 – Population, Land & Stock Book shows living in Bringelly NSW in the employ of John Dickson, landowner.
1825 – Shown in the NSW Convict Muster as employed by John Dckson Bringelly
30/09/1825 – NSW Colonial Secretary’s Papers – Receipt of payment to Mr Eman for the supply of 75,000 bricks made for use by the Government, for the new township of Cow Pastures – 255 shillings paid
11/1828 – NSW Census shows William as a Mariner living in Sydney city area.
20/11/1843 – Convict Death Register NSW – William Eman died in Liverpool Hospital. He is probably buried in an unmarked grave in the Liverpool Pioneer Memorial Park.
