Biographies

Son of William Downing and Elizabeth Rhodes born 1816 Tipton, Staffordshire lived in West Bromwich, Staffordshire. Convicted Lent 1834 to 15 years transportation. A Petition by his parents and 32 people of West Bromwich was put before the court. The court report stated he was of bad character - his grandfather and three uncles already deported.
The grandfather was William Rhodes, uncles were Adam, William and Richard Rhodes all of Wednesbury, Staffordshire. Another uncle George Francis Rhodes was transported to Van Diemans Land.
