Biographies
Two assigned convicts of Major James Mudie of Castle Forbes near Newcastle were tried on 10 December 1833 at Supreme Court of attempted murder of John Lanach (Mudie's son in law) on 5 November 1833 and a further four of counselling aiding and abetting.
All six were convicted and sentenced to death with Hitchcock & Poole to be hanged near the site of their crime adjacent to Castle Forbes at Patrick Plains, the remaining four Reilly, Perry, Jones and Ryan to be hanged in Sydney.
Jones sentence was later commuted to 14 years transportation to Norfolk Island.
Sentence was carried out.
At their trial mention had been made of maltreatment by Mudie and it is noted that questions had been asked resulting in Mudie returning to England not much later.
Perpetrators were; Antony Hitchcock "Lord Melville 1829" and John Poole "Claudine 1829" ( attempted murder);;;;;James Reilly "Bussorah Merchant 1831" & John Perry "Asia 1832" & David Jones "Guildford 1829" & James Ryan "Eliza 1832" (counselling aiding and abetting.
