Biographies

John CLARKE, son of Henry CLARKE and (Female) UNKNOWN, was born about 1804 in England, United Kingdom and died on 16 January 1877 in Barbers Creek (near Murrumburrah), Colony of New South Wales about age 73.

John married Jane DITCHFIELD on 19 September 1838 in Launceston, Colony of Van Diemen's Land.

Jane was born about 1815 in Liverpool ?, England, United Kingdom and died after 1853 in the Colony of New South Wales.

They had six children: William, John, Elizabeth ("Betsy"), George, Mary A., and Henry.

Noted events in his life were:

• Convict details ~ 27 June 1831 ~ John was tried at the Leicester Quarter Sessions, Leicestershire, England, he was sentenced to 7 years, for obtaining rum by false pretences.

• Convict details ~ 20 December 1832 ~ John was transported from Portsmouth, Hampshire, England aboard the "Lotus".

• Convict details ~ 16 May 1833 ~ John was transported to Hobart, Colony of Van Diemen's Land aboard the "Lotus".

• Immigration ~ 28 May 1846 ~ John immigrated to Boyd Town, Twofold Bay, Colony of N.S.W. aboard the "Velocity" from Hobart Town, Van Diemen's Land.
