Samuel Dean was transported to Australia in 1832. He had been found guilty of stealing lead he was sentenced for 7 years. On arrival he was assigned to Robert Williams.

He married Catherine Kinsella in 1838, daughter of an Irish convict at St Matthews Catholic Church Windsor. Samuel obtained his certificate of freedom in 1840, they had 12 children.
