Biographies

Richard Bleathman was sentenced to hanging, for riotous assembly, and helping to demolish a house in Bandford, in Dorset. This was commuted to life and deportation. His, and his friends actions were because of the 1831 reform act. Back then, to vote, you had to have an annual income of at least £10 per year, and also land and property. No votes for the ordinary man, or woman back then. Because of the unrest caused by the farm workers and the poor at the time, you could hardly blame them for being a little bit hacked off! I am extremely proud of my ancestors actions, and believe he was fighting for the basic right to vote, and to be able to have a living wage. I often think about the hardship that he, and countless other have done, male and female, for us all to enjoy the freedoms that we have today. Rock on Richard Bleathman!
