John was convicted at Bristol City Quarter Sessions on 13 January 1823 and sentenced to 7 years transportation, he arrived Sydney aboard Countess Harcourt on 12 July 1824.

John was murdered (with a spade) in August 1835 by fellow inmate James Burrows (Prince Regent 1830) .
