Biographies

Thomas Powell was tried at the Old Bailey in 1819 as a 16 year old for stealing from his employer he was fined 1 shilling, In 1821 he was convicted of larceny of the person as a 18 year old. On his Old Bailey records it shows him as 5ft3 with brown hair brown eyes and fair comp being born in Soho Middlesex. On his transportation papers for the 1821 crime,he is shown as 5ft 4 brown hair brown eyes fair comp with a scar, he states he is born in Yorkshire and has sisters in Malton Yorkshire, I have searched extensively in Yorkshire without success, As he was tried in Middlesex I decided to research that area after finding numerous Thomas Powell's born in 1803 leading to dead ends as they either died after 1822 or married. One Baptised at St Anne's Soho Westminster to David Powell and Mother Mary Townsend is the only one I have not been able to trace therefore maybe? After he had served his 7 years he arrived in Victoria where he married Johannah Connor who it seems already had a son John to a Patrick Higgins who was Murdered, Thomas and Johannah had two daughters Mary and Johanna I am related to Mary who was the partner of John Looney. There is another Thomas Powell who arrived on the Arab11 to Tasmania who married Catherine Keating, various researcher have claimed him as our Thomas, I can assure everyone it is not ours, both Thomas's were having family at the same time, Thomas and Catherine in Tasmania and our Thomas in Geelong Victoria. He could not have been a bigamous a bit hard to go between both families
