Matthew was born about 1795 Norfolk

Matthew was tried and convicted at Norfolk Assizes on 15 March 1823 and sentenced to life transportation

Matthew arrived Sydney aged about 21 aboard Guildford on 5 March 1824 with his Indent showing trade "ploughman"

Matthew together with Patrick Sullivan (Brampton 1823), James Moran (Isabella 1823) & Thomas Canenagh ( transported convict ship not identified) commenced bush ranging activity.

All four were convicted of bush ranging on 2 Sept 1826 and sentenced to death.

Matthew and Thomas Cavenagh were both hanged on 17 Oct 1826 at Parramatta.
