Joseph was convicted at Cambridge General Quarter Sessions on 19 October 1853 and sentenced to 14 years transportation, he arrived West Australia aboard Adelaide on 18 July 1855

Joseph was convicted on 7 October 1863 of rape Jane Rhodes (aged 13) on 18 August 1863 at Greenborough Flats Was and entrenched to death.
