Biographies

Robert Jones was born about 1809 in England
After he was transported to Australia as a convict and had served his time he moved to South Australia where he met and married Henrietta Boon 3 April 1856 in the Trinity Church Adelaide.

Robert bought a farm at Sandergrove, South Australia and he and Henrietta had 6 children
Henrietta Jones, Lydia Jane Jones, Robert William Jones, Sarah Ann ((Jones) Elvidge, Louisa (Jones) Summerscales and Rosa Jones.

Robert owned a few more allotments in the area nearer to Strathalbyn, he died in 1873.

His wife sold the farms, the original farm n Sandergrove is still known as ‘Bob’s Paddock’ today in 2022. Robert is buried in the Alexandria Cemetery in Strathalbyn.

His daughter Sarah Ann married Thomas Elvidge
Sarah and Thomas had a number of children one of which was Frederick Oliver Elvidge, my grandfather.
