Circa 1824 (#1) Born to Job and Hannah Dredge (nee Harding).
1841 (#2) At the time of the First National Census Silas was living in Butcher’s Lane, Frome:
Job Dredge (Father) Aged: 60 (Weaver)
Hannah Dredge (Mother) Aged: 55
George Dredge (Brother) Aged: 25 (Agricultural Labourer)
Silas Dredge Aged: 15 (Agricultural Labourer)
Harriett Dredge (Sister) Aged: 20 (Weaver)
1841 (#3) 25th January: Committed to Ilchester Gaol awaiting trial alongside his brother George, for stealing two sacks of parsnips. The register also notes “If from any other prison”: Shepton Gaol).
1841 (#4) 29th March: Trial at the Wells Spring Assizes, alongside his brother George at the County Sessions, for larceny. No bill recorded and both were discharged according to law.
1848 (#5) 22nd April: Imprisoned at Shepton Mallet Gaol. Sentenced to one month, for vagrancy.
1851 (#6) At the time of the National Census he was living at Broadway (86), Frome:

1853 (#1) April 9th: Baptised in the Parish of Frome, Selwood. Birth noted as 1824. Living at Green Hill Place.
1856 (#7) At the Wells Spring Sessions, received a sentence of 10 calendar months hard labour at Shepton Mallet Prison, for stealing a watch.
1861 (#8) At the time of the National Census he was living at Water Lane (72), Frome:

1861 (#9) December 31st: At the Taunton Epiphany Sessions he was on trial for stealing a pair of trucks at Frome. No evidence.
Same Sessions - Breaking (into) a warehouse at Frome, receiving a sentence of 3 years penal servitude.
1862 (#10) 29th April: Received at Millbank Prison from Taunton Gaol.
1862 (#10 & #11) 3rd May: Transferred to Pentonville Prison from Millbank Prison.
1862 (#11 & #12) 25th August: Transferred to Chatham Convict Prison from Pentonville Prison.

On Sunday 9th May I completed a timeline with full citations for Silas (1824 to 1879). He was the last prisoner to be transported with a connection to Shepton Mallet Prison.
