Biographies
William Power was born around 1818 in Co. Tipperary, Ireland.
On the 15th of July 1846 he was tried and convicted of burglary and robbery in Co. Waterford. He stole 230 pounds from Micholas Veale (with 2 others) and was convicted for 15 years transportation.
His occupation at the time was farm labourer. He was listed as Roman Catholic, Married and could not read or write.
William departed Dublin on 11 Nov 1846 on board the Tory (along with William Russell who was one of the 2 others charged with him), and arrived in Hobart, Van Diemens Land on 18 Mar 1847.
William didn't stay in any prisons in Van Diemens Land, and was instead assigned to work for others on farms.
He was granted a ToL on 15 Feb 1853 for Meritorious Conduct. But then charged with misconduct on 26 Oct 1853 for appearing in a Public House on a Sunday and sentenced to 2 months hard labour.
A ToL was again granted on 13 Jun 1854 and then a CP granted 14 Aug 1855.
On 13 Aug 1857, William married Johanna(h) Fahey/Fahy, a free Irish servant. They had 2 children, John and Johanna.
William died on 10 Nov 1870 at the General Hospital, Hobart from Liver Cancer.
