Biographies

Eliza Bowra was tried and convicted 7 January 1836 at Kent Quarter Sessions Court for stealing gowns and sentenced to 14 years transportation. She arrived Sydney NSW 12 October 1836 per 'Elizabeth'(5). Convict indent #47236 lists her calling as housemaid, single and Protestant. Her TOL 42/3235 & 43/858. She was born 26 April 1818 Chatham Kent England daughter of Henry Bowra & Sarah Wilkinson. She married twice. Firstly 17 November 1840 St Clements C/E Yass NSW to James Carter (c1804-1858) (convict per 'Vittoria' 1829) with whom she had 10 children. She secondly married 5 November 1858 Balranald NSW to Peter Young (free) and they had two children. Eliza Bowra died 5 March 1887 Balranald NSW.
