Biographies

Eliza Masters was born in Sutton, Cambridgeshire to John and Elizabeth Masters in 1828. She was transported to Tasmania for larceny and arrived on the convict ship Tory on 6th August 1848. Her initial sentence was 7 years. Her profession was given as "Needlewoman".

Eliza married William Males on 3rd December 1849 in Hobart and had a son, William James (b 24th December 1850).

On 30th March 1864, Eliza was re-married to John Oconnor in Launceston and lived for some years in the Deloraine area. John and Eliza subsequently had 5 children, Mary Ann in 1857, Jane Mary in 1858, Louisa in 1861, William in 1866 and Arthur in 1870.
