Biographies

John Tidbury is my 3rd Great Grandfather, born 1813 in England, tried 24 Feb 1841, sentenced to 15 years transportation, departed 28 Sept 1841, arrived at VDL in 1842 on the ship "Tortoise". He married abt 14 Aug 1848 in Hamilton, Tasmania to Mary Ann Williams, born 1826 in London. At the time of marriage John had been residing at Fenton Forrest and Ann was residing in New Norfolk. Some time after their marriage they moved to "Blue Hills" near Oatlands. John died as a pauper on 27 March 1894, he is buried at Cornelian Bay Cemetery in Pauper A, number 541 of whom an unknown George Fletcher is also buried in this same plot. Mary Ann William arrived from London on the ship "LLoyds".
John & Mary had 2 daughters Harriet Tidbury, born 1 April 1855 in Oatlands, died 1855 in Oatlands. Their other daughter was my 2nd G.Grandmother Caroline Tidbury, born 1848, died 28 Oct 1868, she married 1866 in Oatlands to Henry Osbourne, born abt 1832-1839, they had my G.Grandfather Robert Joseph Osbourne, born 3 Aug 1867 in Tunnack, died 6 Aug 1939 in Hobart, married 29 June 1890 in St Thomas Church, Tea Tree, by Rev. John K. Wilmer, to Louisa Elizabeth Coombes, born 17 June 1871 in Tea Tree, died 17 July 1927, daughter of James Coombes and Joannah (nee Hann), they had 6 other children.
Robert & Louisa Osbourne had 11 children:- Amy Louisa 1891-1962; Florence May (Florrie) 1894-1924; Albert Edward 1896-1962; Lillian Emmeline (Lily) 1898-1967; Elsie Rose 1900-1917; Maud Edith 1902; Percival (Percy) 1904 (all these were born in Oatlands); Jessie Caroline (1906 in Rhyndaston, died 1987 in Sydney); Robert Arthur (Bobby, 1908 in Stonor); Henrick Charles (born 1911 in Eldon, died 1911 of pneumonia) & Eddied James (Eric, born 1911 in Rhyndaston.
Amy married Edward Howard Howlett; Florence married Alfred Thomas James Gillie; Maud also moved to Paddington, near Jessie.
Jessie married 8 Nov 1926 in Hobart to Samuel Brittan, born 13 March 1893 in Cardiff Wales, he had been orphaned & was raised by aunts, he died 14 July 1950 in Sydney, they was residing at 18 Hill St, Hobart in 1928, later moved to 49 Stafford St, Paddington NSW, then 33 Campbell Ave, Paddington.
Samuel & Jessie had 2 children Betty Ismay, born 1927, married Ronald Ernest (Ron) Hancock & had a son Alan. They then had my dad, Jeffrey Brittan, born 7 Oct 1928 at 88 Goulburn St, Hobart, died 11 Dec 2005 at home- 3 Hagan Ct, Bull Creek, WA, married 14 June 1952 in Holy Trinity Church, Hobart to Frances Patricia (Pat) Fra, born 28 Dec 1931 at 10 Green St, New Town, Tas (Kmart is now situated here), died 15 April 2007 in Whittle Ward, Repatriation Hospital, Hobart.
