Main perpetrator in the Eastbourne Robberies (along with George Turner, Daniel Foster, Samuel Merricks and Henry Sinnock).
The Eastbourne Robberies were a series of robberies in the Sussex area which culminated in the men breaking into the home of an elderly lady and terrorising her and her maids. They stole cash, jewellery and other small items. When caught, one of the men confessed to the burlgaries and implicated the others.
Tried at York Assizes 31.7.1843 - Sentenced to Life and sent to Norfolk Island on the Blundell departing 8.3.1844 - arrived 6.7.1847.
Worked in the coal mines in Launceston and the Port Arthur Penal Station, after he did 3 years hard labour on Norfolk Island.
Applied to marry Catherine Connor (ship: Waverley) 29.10.1850 - denied.
Applied to marry Mary Lugg nee Hayes (ship: Arabian) 9.12.1851 - cannot be complied with (unable to find if marriage was approved) but she gave birth to a daughter, Mary Roser in 1853.
