Biographies

John Rogers was born in Cardington, Church Stretton, Shropshire, England the illigitimate son of Mary Rogers. He was christened on 3rd April 1803 at the Church of St Lawrence, Church Stretton.
On 17th August 1823 in Cardington he married Anne Habberley (1801-1891) in Cardington.
In the County Sessions of 26th June 1837, John was charged with Larceny. He stole some knives and forks, he was found guilty and sentenced to be transported to Australia for seven years.
He sailed on the Coromandel on 26th June 1838, one of 350 convicts. They arrived at Van Dieman’s Land (Tasmania) on 26th October 1838.
He left a wife and five children.
