Biographies

born 1823 County Cork, Ireland

Married Ellen Malone (born 1823 County Cork) in Melbourne on 15 January 1852

Richard was convicted in 1864 for Robbery With Violence in Castelmaine, Vic (8 year sentence). He had 7 children, 3 died young due to neglect/accidents. The surviving 4 children were taken into State Care in 1865 as father was in jail and mother had deserted them.

One of his daughters Ellen Sheridan (b. 1855) had a child with David Alexander Smyth in 1878 (Mary Janet Smyth) but couple never married. David "abandoned" Ellen and Mary Janet was raised by his family - Mary is my maternal great grandmother.

Richard lived mostly around the mining areas of Bendigo and Maldon in Victoria, Australia.
